While Farley was not pushing the JV option, it was discussed as a way to protect American interests in a scenario in which Chinese companies make inroads in the US, the people said. Still, it got a cold reception from the Trump officials, who felt it would face opposition in Washington, the people said. However, an investment deal like that is seen by some in the administration as a possible outcome of Trump’s planned meeting in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping in April.
