Eight skiers found dead, one missing after California avalanche

The ski group, which included workers from Blackbird Mountain Guides which was leading the trip, became trapped about 11:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said. The six rescued skiers were able to contact officials by text message as they took shelter using a tarp, said Russell Greene, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, in an interview with KCRA news station.
