Travel options to Hawaii just got a major boost with
Delta Air Lines growing its island network across the Northern Hemisphere winter season. The
SkyTeam carrier has announced its resumption of Boston to Honolulu, which becomes the longest domestic flight served in the United States at 5,095 miles (8,200 km).
From December 19, Delta will deploy its Airbus A330-300 to serve the route from Boston, a link that was served up until last year by this airline, alongside Hawaiian Airlines, until both airlines shelved the service. This move by Delta will see one of its most extensive Hawaiian networks to date.
Bring Back The Longest Domestic Route
The non-stop route between
Boston Logan International Airport and Honolulu International Airport, will become the only link between the region of New England and the Hawaiian islands. These flights will initially commence as daily, operating from mid-December, before transitioning to a four-weekly schedule throughout the winter season. All flights are expected to be operated by the A330-300.
Additionally, DL will commence a brand new route between
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Kahului Airport(Maui), which will see the first connection between the Upper Midwest and the Valley Isle. Also operated with the A330-300, the airline will operate the route daily from December 19 through the peak holiday period before switching to a five-weekly service through winter. Amy Martin, Vice President of Network Planning at Delta Air Lines, shared the following statement:
“Hawaii plays an important role in our long-haul leisure network. This expansion strengthens connectivity from key U.S. hubs while giving customers more choice in how they reach the islands, alongside the premium travel experience they expect on these long-haul flights.”
More Hawaiian Capacity
With Delta Air Lines already one of the leading carriers at both Boston and Minneapolis, these new links will be celebrated by providing more choice for sun-seeking travelers. In Boston, the airline has its delightful Delta One Lounge, and additional Delta sky Clubs, while MSP also has the airlines newest lounge that can seat more than 450 guests.
Announced alongside the Boston and Minneapolis routes, Delta will enhance several current routes with additional capacity this winter, adding frequencies between Atlanta and Honolulu, as well as between Detroit and Honolulu, and between Salt Lake City and Kona.
This will see Delta operate its most robust network to the Aloha state than ever before, further cementing the airline as a leading carrier to the Hawaiian islands. Delta Vacations also supports travelers in being able to book their ideal Hawaiian holiday easier than ever before.
The 10 Longest Non-Stop Domestic Flights In The US
All of these routes connect Hawaii with the US mainland.
Improved Capacity from Atlanta, Detroit, New York, Salt Lake City And Los Angeles
As noted above, Delta has added additional flights from key hubs in the mainland United States. From January 4, the airline will add a second frequency from
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which will operate thrice weekly onboard an Airbus A330-300.
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is also set for a boost, with its Honolulu service moving to daily from November 9, onboard the A330-300.
Those traveling from the Big Apple (New York JFK) will see its service extend from five weekly flights to daily, serviced with the Boeing 767-300. This route sees direct competition from Hawaiian Airlines, which operates the route daily with its Airbus A330. From the Mountain West, Salt Lake City will see a daily service launch from November 9 to Kona, with the route served by the Boeing 767-300. Los Angeles is also set for an upgraded service to Kona with the 767-300 also deployed on the route.
Travelers are drawn to Hawaii every year for its consistent warm temperatures, even through the Northern Hemisphere winter season, making it a popular year-round hotspot. This winter, Delta will offer its most robust schedule to the islands to date, making it even easier for travelers to visit this unique destination.
