Davey Todd: English rider a doubt for North West 200 and Isle of Man TT with broken femur

Davey Todd is a doubt for the North West 200 after he broke his femur in a crash at Daytona in the USA.

Todd, 30, crashed in qualifying for the Daytona 200 on Thursday and had surgery on his injures.

It was a second accident of the session for the English rider, who was earlier collected by another rider.

Todd said the team had thought they had fixed his PHR Performance Triumph and he returned to the circuit but the “steering jammed” and he crashed into the wall.

That accident led to multiple injuries, including a broken femur, tibia, foot and nose.

In an update on his Instagram, Todd said he had surgery to “put a rod in my femur and screw my tib back together, so we are positive now we are on the mend and making steps to move forward and get healthy again”.

Todd, who is set to race in the British Superbike Championship with 8TEN team-mate Peter Hickman as well as the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT, said he “can’t really give an ETA” on when he will return to action.

“We are taking it day by day and trying to get mended as fast as possible. I have already started standing on the left leg, which I am allowed to do since the surgery.

“I am going be working really hard, and a lot of great people have been helping and advising me on what to do to be as fit as possible, as soon as possible.”

The North West 200 takes place from 6-9 May, while the Isle of Man TT is scheduled for 25 May until 30 June.

Todd is a multiple race winner at both international road races, with three wins at the Isle of Man and nine victories at the North West 200 in Northern Ireland.
