Crunchyroll’s failure to share Re:Zero season 4’s new trailer frustrates global fans

The wait for season 4 is almost over, but not everyone knows it

Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World remains one of the world’s biggest ongoing isekai anime, with fans outside Japan eagerly awaiting season 4. However, the latest trailer for the new season has been publicly available on Japanese channels for more than two weeks at the time of writing, and Crunchyroll has yet to share it internationally, much to the growing frustration of global fans. People have taken to social media questioning the partnership between the streamer and Kadokawa, accusing Crunchyroll of not upholding its agreement to market Re:Zero properly in the West.

Kadokawa has given Crunchyroll exclusive licensing rights for worldwide distribution of its slate of upcoming titles each year since 2016. Crunchyroll agreed to co-finance future anime titles from Kadokawa and to enter into a comprehensive marketing collaboration between the two companies’ publishing and distribution businesses. More recently, the ties between the two companies grew as Sony acquired Crunchyroll and then a majority share in Kadokawa. But the Re:Zero trailer has been out for two weeks, and Crunchyroll hasn’t even posted key visuals, let alone a trailer.

Fans have launched an online campaign to grab Crunchyroll’s attention, rallying around the hashtag #PostTheTrailer. While the push hasn’t appeared to move the needle yet, it has succeeded in spreading the word across the fandom that a new Re:Zero trailer is already out, something many fans didn’t realize as they continued waiting for Crunchyroll to share it.

Re:Zero season 4 is slated to premiere in April, and while Crunchyroll has published news about the series on its website, it still hasn’t uploaded the trailer to YouTube or shared any season-related content on social media. That silence is especially glaring as the anime celebrates its 10-year anniversary with new trailers and visuals, making this a major moment for fans. Instead, many were left unaware that a trailer had even dropped. It’s a disconnect Crunchyroll should move quickly to fix, particularly as the platform has just announced another subscription price increase.
