Carney to conclude Norway trip with Nordic 5 meeting before heading to London

OSLO — Prime Minister Mark Carney will conclude his first official visit to Norway today by meeting with the leaders of the Nordic Five — Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said Saturday that the meeting was set up after he told his peers that Carney would be in Oslo.

Carney spent Saturday with Store in Oslo, where the two leaders discussed critical mineral development, the energy sector and shared security priorities including outer space.

Canadian Forces have been taking part in NATO’s Cold Response military exercises in northern Norway, aimed at enhancing the alliance’s ability to operate in harsh Arctic winter conditions.

Carney is scheduled to leave Oslo for London on Sunday night.

He is scheduled to meet with King Charles and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday in London before beginning a planned vacation, but says he will remain in close contact with government officials.
