Axworthy said he believes that if the NDP “can get its act together and choose a leader that gives them some kind of punch,” then Carney could be vulnerable at the next election, whenever it comes. “By then, it could be 13 years of Liberal government. I went through that in the (Pierre Elliott) Trudeau period, and got elected, but only by a slim margin because people said they’d seen too much of Trudeau,” he said. “Canadians wanted to get rid of the Liberals until (President) Trump came along.”
