Road to Milan: Until she found out her boyfriend’s secret, the thought of going to the Olympics to watch hockey was a “pipe dream.” Yet one night in December, her boyfriend revealed he had impulsively bought tickets to the men’s hockey final in Milan. “When he bought the tickets, it kind of forced us to go,” Schade said. A longtime hockey fan, Schade was thrilled. From there, their plans for a trip to Milan, which included a stopover in Paris to visit her sister-in-law unfurled. Being here in Milan, surrounded by Canadians dressed in their quintessential red jerseys and waving the flag, it feels like being at a “home game” for Schade. “The atmosphere is crazy,” she said.
