Canadian invention: Pablum, Canada’s cereal superstar


A mixture of wheat, oat and corn flours fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, including iron, the formula was cooked in giant pressurized steam kettles, dried on a heated rotating drum, then scraped off, according to The Canadian Encyclopedia: “The resulting cereal was a dry, flaky powder that retained the desired nutrients. Busy mothers could quickly mix the cereal, which kept indefinitely, with milk or water.”
