Employment mostly fell among men aged 25 to 54 — the core working-age group — and young people between the ages of 15 and 24.

Jobs were mostly lost in the goods and services-producing industries, with 18,000 jobs lost in wholesale and retail trade.

Average hourly wages rose 3.9 per cent, or $1.42, for a total of $37.56 an hour compared to the same period last year.
