Don’t get me wrong—I thoroughly enjoy a soft, clean-smelling perfume, but I don’t exactly love smelling like soap. I totally understand the appeal of a “fresh out of the shower” vibe, but when I want to smell airy and delicate, I prefer a perfume with more of a light, velvety quality. Think fragrances that evoke fuzzy sweaters, whipped meringue or a cluster of cotton-like clouds—”fluffy” perfumes, as I’m officially calling them.
Fluffy scents are understated at their core, usually with a touch of sweetness (meringue, marshmallow, etc.), yet not enough to fully push them into gourmand territory. That said, they’re also quite cosy—the fragrance equivalent of a cashmere blanket—which makes them perfect for year-round wear. Essentially, they’re the ultimate crowd-pleasers, perfect for anyone who wants to smell like a real-life angel. (My hand is raised!)
I firmly believe that fluffy fragrances will dominate the beauty space this winter and beyond, so I’ve decided to round up the ones I can’t stop wearing. I can’t explain it, but you can practically smell the texture of these blends below—each whiff a caress across your skin.

DedCool’s Mochi Milk is the epitome of plush. (Even the brand itself says it feels like “sleeping on a cloud.”) Its marshmallow and sweetened rice milk give it a “whipped” quality, but the blend’s signature amber and white musk keeps it from smelling too sweet. It’s perfect for the gourmand lovers among us who want to try something a little lighter, and it layers like a dream with other sweet scents.

There’s arguably no fragrance note fluffier than marshmallow. “It’s such a bouncy and fun ingredient,” Ellis Brooklyn founder Bee Shapiro once told me about formulating this delicately sweet perfume mist. The lemon here also ensures a bright opening, which adds to its airy, fluffy quality. As one Sephora reviewer put it, “It’s soft, fluffy, and lightly gourmand, like clean sugar and airy marshmallow without being heavy or sticky.”

Halo Glow: Luminous Cloud Eau de Parfum

ICYMI, H&M and e.l.f. Cosmetics teamed up for a major fragrance collab inspired by the beauty brand’s most iconic makeup products. My favourite of the bunch has to be Halo Glow: Luminous Cloud (inspired by e.l.f.’s Halo Glow makeup collection), a romantic, soft scent with whiffs of magnolia, vanilla and amber. Like its makeup counterparts, which are known for giving your skin a lit-from-within glow, this fluffy perfume is dreamy and angelic.

Spritzing Valaya makes you feel like you’re submerged into a fluffy feather-down duvet in a five-star hotel. It’s one of the most ethereal perfumes I’ve tried. It’s a beautiful floral perfume, with creamy white florals, fuzzy peach skin and skin-like musk that gives it a fluffy, cloud-like quality. I’ve not met anyone who hasn’t fallen in love with this perfume.

Sogno In Rosso Parfum

The first time I smelled this perfume from Valentino’s Anatomy Of Dreams collection, I thought it smelled surprisingly clean and milky (from the bold red bottle, I thought it would lean super sweet or smoky). Then I saw the composition’s latte form and orange blossom and immediately understood why. The former is whipped and light (aka fluffy), while the latter has a creamy, honey-like quality that’s fresh and downright addictive. Trust me, it smells divine. I reach for Sogno in Rosso almost daily!

I usually adore this fragrance during spring and summer (I typically crave fresher scents in the warmer months), but I’ve found this comforting, clean blend to be a fabulous layering base this winter. It truly plays nice with every fragrance family, and it gives my cold-weather-coded blends a sheer, powdery impression—like curling up in a freshly-washed, fluffy down duvet.

For those who wish to smell like an expensive cashmere blanket, this £38 body mist is a no-brainer buy. Warm, soft, airy and comfortable are the buzzwords that immediately come to mind when I spritz it on my skin (plus fluffy, of course), and it dries down to this stunningly subtle musk with a surprisingly long-lasting sillage. Plenty of reviewers agree with my take: “It really reminds me of a cashmere jumper,” one shopper says of the clean, “quiet luxury” scent.

A celestial fragrance through and through, Celestial Object starts with a sparkling zing of pink pepper before settling into creamy softness thanks to almond, rice paper and tonka bean. It’s meant to smell like stardust on skin. It’s delicate yet deeply mysterious, and I find myself practically floating away with each spritz.
