Ben Graham, chair of Manitoba Hydro, resigns after two years on the job

WINNIPEG — The board chairman at Manitoba’s Crown-owned energy utility has resigned, two years after taking on the job.

Manitoba Hydro says officials at the corporation were saddened to learn of Ben Graham’s departure.

A written statement from Manitoba Hydro says Graham led the utility through a number of changes, including plans for rehabilitating aging infrastructure and advancing reconciliation.

Graham was appointed as part of an overhaul of the board of directors undertaken by the NDP government shortly after it won the October 2023 election.

His departure comes at a time when Manitoba Hydro is facing deficits brought on by dry weather and low water levels, and as the utility is looking for new energy generation by 2030.

There is no word on who might replace Graham — the vice-chair is Jamie Wilson, who also works as a vice-president at Red River College Polytechnic.

Graham had previously served as CEO of another Crown corporation, Manitoba Public Insurance.
