Canada has announced a total of $7.8 million in funding to the Commonwealth of Learning to support the organization’s education initiatives across the Commonwealth.

Recipient: Commonwealth of Learning
Funding: $7.8 million

The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) is an intergovernmental organization that was established in 1987 with headquarters in Burnaby, British Columbia, and with a mandate to help Commonwealth governments and institutions expand the scale, efficiency and quality of learning by using open, distance and technology-based approaches. This funding will help the COL carry out its ongoing work to strengthen the capacity of member countries to develop the human resources required for inclusive economic and social development.

The COL supports the development and implementation of open and distance learning, open educational resources and technology-enabled learning policies and strategies, which create enabling environments for building robust and resilient systems of education and training. The COL also works directly with educational institutions and organizations across the Commonwealth to build their capacity to serve the educational needs of marginalized communities.
