Angel Reese is traded from Chicago Sky to Atlanta Dream

One of the WNBA’s top players is on the move.

Angel Reese, a two-time All-Star, is being traded from the Chicago Sky to the Atlanta Dream, the teams announced Monday. The Sky will acquire a 2027 first-round pick and a 2028 first-round pick in exchange for Reese, and the sides will also swap second rounders in 2028.

“Angel has achieved many record-breaking milestones in her first two years in the WNBA and has been a competitive force for the Sky,” Chicago general manager Jeff Pagliocca said in a statement. “We are thankful for her many important contributions to this league and this game, and we know she will continue to have a big impact on the court and beyond. We wish Angel all the best in her next chapter.”

The Sky drafted Reese with the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She was named to the All-Rookie team in her first season, and in addition to being an All-Star, has also led the league in rebounding in each of her first two years in the league.

After beginning her collegiate career at Maryland, Reese became one of the stars of the women’s game after leading LSU to a national championship in 2023, when the Tigers defeated a Caitlin Clark-led Iowa team in the title game. The matchup spawned a rivalry between Reese and Clark, which has since carried over to the WNBA.

Reese has not found the same postseason success as a professional, however, as Chicago has missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. The Sky made a coaching change before their 2025 campaign, but still finished with a worse record than Reese’s rookie year.

Though she admitted to speaking in frustration, Reese was critical of the Sky’s direction last September, telling the Chicago Tribune she was “not settling for the same” after another disappointing season.

“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want,” Reese said in September. “I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously, I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.”

Reese now moves to a Dream team that has made the playoffs in each of the last three seasons but hasn’t advanced beyond the first round since 2018. Atlanta finished first in the Eastern Conference in 2025, but lost to Clark’s Indiana Fever in the playoffs.

Reese is entering the final guaranteed year of her rookie contract, with the Dream holding a team option for the 2027 season.

In 64 career games, Reese is averaging 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
