Almost 10 years on from the first one, Ruiner is getting a sequel, and this time with co-op

Not all that long off the heels of releasing parkour boomer shooter Metal Eden, developer Reikon Games have now announced that they’ll be returning to their cyberpunk world Ruiner in the form of… well, it’s just called Ruiner 2. And it’s a sequel that sure, looks like more of the same, but the immediately noticeable difference in this one will be that you can play it with a couple of your buddies.

Specifically, you and two of your friends can play the game in co-op, though the degree to which this is possible hasn’t been laid out (I’m assuming you can play through the whole thing in co-op, but you know what assuming is made out of). The co-op isn’t the only difference though, as now there’s a new shell system.

This new system apparently allows you to “command a roster of up to three unique combat bodies, switching between them instantly as the fight shifts.” The idea behind this appears to be that you have the option to build up a range of classes to choose between on the fly, all of which have their on playstyles, abilities, that sort of thing. Shells are apparently unlocked by taking down bosses as opposed to just spending some skill points or whatever, which sounds like it could either be refreshing or just plain annoying.

One of the listed features that has piqued my curiosity is that the RPG also has an “endless endgame,” going on to explain, “Fight through escalating tiers across Rengkok’s darkest districts: stronger enemies, better loot, no ceiling. The only limit is your build.” Does this simply mean enemies get tougher and tougher infinitely? Can they get impossibly difficult? Would it even be playable past a certain point? No way of knowing as of now, I suppose, but it’s something I’ll stay curious about.

No release date attached to this one, not even a release year, so if it’s caught your interest, you’ll just have to hold on for a little while.
