All-new Star Fox and Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake reportedly set for Switch 2 release this year

Nintendo reportedly has great plans to tap into (and benefit from) our nostalgia this year.

According to internet tipster Natethehate – who has a pretty good track record with these kinds of reports, having accurately shared the Switch 2’s reveal date ahead of an official announcement from Nintendo last year – the Mario maker has an all new but still “classic” Star Fox revival planned.

This new Star Fox game will reportedly be announced (officially, at least) in April, before then making its Switch 2 debut in the summer. This was all meant to tie in with the recent news that Star Fox will be making an appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. As for what the new game will include, the words online multiplayer were mentioned.

But that’s not all. Not only do we have some Star Fox rumblings this afternoon, but also some Legend of Zelda-flavoured ones as well. According to Natethehate, Nintendo has plans to release a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2 some time around the festive season. “In the second half of 2026, approaching the holidays if not the holidays, we are going to receive an Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2,” Natethehate said. “This is something I was a bit hesitant about in January because I didn’t think it was something they’d do. I’m hearing an Ocarina of Time remake.”

The leaker added he doesn’t “have details as to what type of scope” this alleged Zelda remake has, but mused “maybe we get a 1:1 remake akin to Demon Souls or maybe a remake that is free to explore design choices”.

Apparently, Ocarina of Time’s reported remake will fill the gap of a new 3D Mario game, which Natethehate suggests won’t arrive in 2026 as expected. “3D Mario will be releasing in 2027,” he said. Meanwhile, Nintendo is seemingly unlikely to host a general Nintendo Direct until June, with announcements before then saved for social media posts and its Today app.

VGC’s sources have also corroborated Natethehate’s report, which you can check out via the video below.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an absolute classic, and actually the first game I remember playing clearly from start to finish with my brothers. Initially released on the N64 back in 1998, it was the first 3D Zelda game, setting the template for future 3D action-adventure games to this day. It also remains the highest scoring game of all time (according to Metacritic) and is widely considered one of the best games ever made.

Earlier this year, Nintendo announced an Ocarina of Time Lego set, known as The Final Battle. Alongside minifigures of the three key characters from the game’s final battle – so, Link, Zelda and Ganondorf – this set also includes a brick-built figure of Ganon (that’s the chap that is a boar-like beast) and a transparent standing for the fairy Navi.
