As one of
Air Canada’s (AC) latest and greatest narrowbody jetliners, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 is a star of the winter travel portfolio. Among the many routes that the next-gen single-aisle will be serving between December 2025 and February 2026, the more far-flung destinations are pushing the jet’s range to border on true long-haul flying.
Offering classic snowbird, the AC MAX 8’s will be crisscrossing North America from the shores ot British Columbia and Nova Scotia to the beaches of Florida, Mexico, Hawaii, and more. The ten longest endurance itineraries on this winter’s schedule begin are 6.5 hours and top out at the 7-hour range.
Air Canada’s 2025 Winter Docket
Thanks to the exceptionally High fuel efficiency of the 737 MAX, Air Canada is able to offer a very strong repertoire of sunny getaways for Canadian customers this winter. The longest option in the top ten is the longest domestic route (North America) in AC’s network at over 2,800 miles (approximately 4,500 kilometers). Followed by a transatlantic hop to the United Kingdom.
Vancouver is the most popular stop on the Canadian side of the list, with cities in Mexico claiming almost half the destination slots on the other end of the flight plan. The airline as a whole significantly expanded its Latin American destinations this winter, adding 13 new routes and 16% capacity overall. Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer, and President, Cargo at Air Canada, made these comments on the year’s expansion strategy:
“Canadians looking to visit sunny climates, or travellers interested in exploring new adventures anywhere on the six continents we fly to, customers can plan and book their winter travels now.”
Flying Into The New Year
Air Canada’s performance in 2025 was marked by resilience in the face of significant challenges. The expansion into Latin America and the Caribbean comes while facing general travel declines to the United States and shows Air Canada’s effort to diversify its network and reduce reliance on any single market.
The airline’s financial results were notably impacted by an August labor strike that led to the cancellation of over 3,200 flights and an estimated $375 million loss. Notably, the airline plans to transfer all of its 737 MAX jets to its subsidiary Air Canada Rouge next year and swap in upgraded Airbus A320 variants instead, according to Aviation A2Z.
The outlook for AC in 2026 is cautiously optimistic, with expectations for a return to steady growth and improved financial results. The full transition of the 737 MAX 8 fleet to the lower-cost AC Rouge subsidiary and the introduction of new A321XLR aircraft are expected to drive improved margins.

Despite the fact that the 737 MAX 8 is a smaller aircraft compared to the MAX 9 at first glance, the lower seat capacity of the MAX 8 gives it a slight range advantage. That makes it more adept for the long and thin routes that Air Canada has added to its winter schedule this year. The range of the MAX 8 is 3,500 miles (6,480 kilometers) compared to the MAX 9 at 3,300 miles (6,110 kilometers).
The airline currently has 47 MAX 8s, according to data from Planespotters.net, and although it at one time did have an order for the MAX 9, those plans have been canceled. AC also never ordered any of the high-density MAX 10 variants, which have yet to enter production due to delays.
