The national inflation rate rose to 3.1 per cent in September, according to data released by Statistics Canada on Monday.

The agency says the annualized inflation reading for September was boosted by higher prices for gasoline last month. Food prices also rose, but at a slower pace than in September.

Ahead of Monday’s release, a Bloomberg survey of 12 economists predicted the September consumer price index would rise 3.18 per cent year over year.
