How To Solve The Hidden Puzzle In Notre Dame In Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

Getting into Notre Dame in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse has its challenges. However, the Cathedral itself is home to a giant organ that the Shadow Arcana boss has used to seal himself away from you. Of course, this is Death, and he doesn’t make it easy, but finding the ghosts in Notre Dame will give you the three melodies you need to play to unlock the door and fight him.

But what if we told you that, despite beating Death, there is actually a fourth melody you can play? The Shadow Arcana spells hint at another tune, but this time there’s no ghost to tell you which keys to press. You’ll need to venture into one specific room that’s thankfully close to a save room, so we’ll explain where to go and how to figure out which keys to press to finish this metroidvania’s most fiendish puzzle yet.

Paying attention to background details will reveal a bunch of hidden information.

How to find and decipher the hidden melody

The first step to completing this puzzle is to visit the Stained Glass Gallery in Notre Dame. From the Western Triforium save point, head right, jumping down the hole at the top, past the Ferryman room, and into the Sealed Scriptorium. From there, go right and crash through the Stained Glass Gallery’s ceiling.

Notice the symbols at the top of the windows? These are in the same order as the keys on the Giant Organ, while the candles below them are the sequence for playing the hidden melody. In total, the tune consists of ten key presses, and you’ll definitely need the double jump and dash power-ups to play them.

Now that you know the tune, you can play it to unlock a bunch of stuff at the same time!

How to play the Notre Dame hidden melody

Go to the Giant Organ and make your way to the Crescent Moon key. From here, you’ll need to play the following keys:

  • Moon
  • Libra (Right one key)
  • Scorpio (Right one key)
  • Aquarius (Right three keys)
  • Capricorn (Left one key)
  • Virgo (Left six keys)
  • Sun (Right one key)
  • Leo (Left two keys)
  • Cancer (Left one key)
  • Aries (Left three keys)

After playing this tune, you’ll unlock two things. The first is a point in Death’s Arcana, so go ahead and spend that as soon as possible. After you’re done, head to the left, and by the statue, a new path has opened underneath. Go down and follow it to obtain the War and Famine legendary dual-swords weapon from the chest at the end.
