October 18, 2026 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada
The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will welcome Víctor Bisonó, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, to Canada, on October 19, 2026. The visit marks the first visit of a Dominican minister of foreign affairs in over 20 years.
Canada and the Dominican Republic share a strong and enduring partnership built on decades of cooperation, robust people-to-people ties, growing commercial links and a shared commitment to democratic values and regional security. The Dominican Republic is one of Canada’s largest bilateral trade and investment partners in the Caribbean and one of the leading destinations for Canadian travelers in our hemisphere.
During the visit, the ministers will discuss ways to deepen economic cooperation, including through increased trade and investment, stronger supply chains and collaboration on critical minerals and responsible mining. They will also exchange views on regional security challenges, including the ongoing crisis in Haiti.
