Former championship-winning Kent and England bowler Alan Brown has died aged 90.
The ex-miner from Mansfield took 707 first-class wickets for Kent in 237 appearances from 1957 to 1970.
Brown helped Kent win their first County Championship title in 57 years in 1970, which proved to be his final season. He is ranked 17th on Kent men’s all-time list of first-class wicket-takers.
He also won two England caps after being selected for the tour to India and Pakistan in 1961, playing one match in each country.
Having been stationed in Kent for National Service in 1954, Brown’s cricketing career at Canterbury came alongside a prolific non-league football career.
After interest from Arsenal and Gillingham, Brown joined Gravesend and Northfleet in 1957, transforming from centre-half to centre-forward, scoring 22 goals in 43 matches across four seasons.
He also had spells at Margate, Canterbury City, Deal Town and Whitstable Town.
