EverWind announces plan for $10 billion privately funded data centre campus and wind project

The company, who announced the plan on Friday, said it represented the largest privately funded investment in Nova Scotia’s history and would help support 2,000 jobs during the construction process and 215 ongoing operational positions.

EverWind is proposing a $10 billion plan to build out a new data centre campus and expand wind generation at its existing industrial site in Point Tupper in Nova Scotia.

The company, who announced the plan on Friday, said it represented the largest privately funded investment in Nova Scotia’s history and would help support 2,000 jobs during the construction process and 215 ongoing operational positions.

EverWind said it would cost $8 billion to develop, construct, own and finance the data centre campus, while the remaining $2 billion would go towards expanding the company’s existing onshore wind operations.

The company’s Point Tupper green hydrogen project was featured in the prospectus for last month’s Canada investment summit. According to that document, the project is in the advanced development stage with ready-to-build wind farms and fully permitted to produce 768 MWs.

The hydrogen aspect is also fully permitted.

The company said Friday that projections it obtained from Davis Pier predicted that the full data centre development is expected to generate approximately $2 billion in provincial GDP during construction, and $137 million in provincial GDP annually, once the site is at full operation.

EverWind said it has reached a long-term lease agreement with a “leading frontier” AI developer for the initial phase of the campus, and has pledged to “protect existing electricity ratepayers, safeguard local water resources, and deliver lasting community benefits.”

The company also said that it will “fund the electricity infrastructure costs attributable to the project and work with all partners to establish a community benefit program worth tens of millions of dollars.”
