Marriott debuts Complimentary Upgrade List app feature and a new lounge experience

Following the company’s Member Day, Marriott International has announced two interesting updates that Bonvoy loyalists can look out for in the coming months.

Among the announcements is an exciting new app feature that will allow elite members to see where they stand in line for a complimentary upgrade — one of the most coveted perks for those with Marriott Bonvoy Gold status and above.

Here’s what we know.

Complimentary Upgrade List feature debuts in the Marriott app

In response to member requests for more visibility into the inner workings of complimentary room upgrades, Marriott is beta testing a new feature called the Complimentary Upgrade List in their app.

This feature will provide eligible members (those with Gold status and above) with the ability to see their exact position in the upgrade list before they arrive and check in to their hotel.

At the moment, the feature is only available for a small subset of hotels, but Marriott says it will expand to over 250 hotels throughout the U.S. and Canada by November.

It will certainly be interesting to see just how long these lists become at popular hotels during peak travel periods, how Nightly Upgrade Awards will be prioritized and whether or not the lists will function similarly to airline upgrade lists.

In addition to the new app feature, Marriott announced a new lounge experience dubbed the Marriott Bonvoy Lounge. Debuting in February 2027, the experience will come to 100 premium-level hotels across Asia-Pacific, with 220 more hotels across Greater China joining in early 2027.

The participating lounges will offer elevated food and beverage programming, have dedicated associates on-site during peak lounge hours and serve locally-inspired offerings, according to the company’s press release.

Marriott Bonvoy members will be able to see participating hotels by using the lounge filter on the app and on Marriott.com ( as well as lounge hours and more property-specific details). There is currently limited information on the experience website, with more details to come soon.
