RJ Mitte, the actor best known for playing Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad, has died at 34.
TMZ reported that a county official in Texas confirmed the news that he died today, October 12, 2026. The site stated it was told that Mitte died by suicide.
Additional details surrounding his death are unclear. An investigation is ongoing.
Mitte started his career in Hollywood with a small role in Disney’s Hannah Montana before appearing as the son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White when Breaking Bad premiered in 2008. He played Walter ‘Flynn’ White Jr. for 56 episodes, cementing him not only as one of the AMC show’s most prominent characters, but one of the more recognizable characters in TV history.
Mitte appeared in all five seasons of Breaking Bad but went on to have an acting career that saw him contribute to different mediums across the entertainment spectrum. In 2013, he showed up in a music video for Steel Panther’s “Party Like Tomorrow Is The End of the World.” In 2014, he appeared in nine episodes of the television series Switched at Birth.
While his time on TV screens saw him also play roles in things like Now Apocalypse and This Close, his movie resume included parts in things like 2021’s Triumph, 2020’s The Oak Room, and 2019’s All the Little Things We Kill. His most recent project saw him star as Joshua in this year’s Talking to Stranger.
Representatives for Mitte shared a statement with TMZ confirming the passing. They called him a “beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate.”
“RJ Mitte was best known for his role as Walter ‘Flynn’ White Jr. on AMC’s critically acclaimed, award-winning series Breaking Bad,” the message continued. “Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion. Beyond entertaining friends and family around the world, he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s.”
