Andrew Bolton and Thom Browne to Be Honored by National Arts Club

Andrew Bolton, curator in charge of The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Thom Browne, the designer and chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, will receive the National Art Club’s Medal of Honor in Fashion. The award recognizes their influence on how fashion.

The curator and designer, partners in life, will be honored at an awards ceremony on Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Tilden Mansion, the NAC’s home at 15 Gramercy Park South in New York City.

Speakers will include artist Amy Sherald, Grammy award-winning musician and Oscar-nominated film actress Queen Latifah, and Miriam Peterson and Nathan Rich, partners of Peterson Rich Office.

“Andrew Bolton and Thom Brown approach fashion from two different perspectives, one as curator and the other as designer, and both have raised the art form,” said Concetta Anne Bencivenga, the NAC’s executive director. “Andrew has drawn millions of people into the galleries of The Met with exhibitions that are scholarly and unforgettable. Thom has spent a quarter century reimagining the uniform with rigor, wit and total commitment to his vision. Together they exemplify how fashion belongs in the same conversation as pantings, sculpture and architecture; a conversation the National Arts Club has been having since 1898. We are honored to welcome them.”

As curator in charge of The Met’s Costume Institute, Bolton has organized exhibitions including “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” and “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” He was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), in 2023, and received the CFDA Founder’s Award in 2022.

Browne launched his brand in 2001 with five suits in a West Village shop and has since grown into women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and is sold in 40 countries. He has received three CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year awards and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award. His company is part of the Ermenegildo Zegna Group.

The National Arts Club Medal of Honor is awarded to leaders in their respective fields. Previous fashion honorees have included Donna Karan, Ruben Toledo, Joseph Abboud, Valerie Steele, Anna Sui, Narciso Rodriguez, Iris Apfel and Norma Kamali, among others.
