Cyberpunk 2077 quest mods are still a relative rarity and the latest’s aimed at folks who don’t think getting to play that one gig with Samurai during the main story’s enough jammin’ in front of a crowd. It’ll let you and brain-dwelling Keanu Reeves tour various venues throughout Night City and offers the option of adding in custom songs from your own playlist if you don’t mind looking down to see that your fingers definitely aren’t in the right place.

Guitar Gigs Across Night City is clearly built on a lot of the animations and interactions from that one base game gig, but its creator insists there’s more to it than just getting up on stage and pressing a button to strum. Across six quests, a progression system sees you unlock new venues, attract bigger crowds, and earn better rewards. Johnny Silverhand will play along during some of the glitzier gigs.

There are some custom cinematics attached to performing, such as you and Johnny having a quick chat in the bathroom after coming off stage. Judging by the preview clip below, these look to lean on reused lines from the base game rather than an AI-generated chatter. The on-stage lines look to be the same, based on V shouting the chorus to Samurai’s A Like Supreme midway through the modder playing Metallica’s Master of Puppets.

Those who grab the mod can also have a crack at adding their own songs into the setlist by sticking some MP3 files in a folder. Naturally, none of the playing animations will be able to anticipate that you’ve opted to play Dire Straits’ greatest hits, so there’ll be a bit of suspension of disbelief required to believe V’s suddenly morphed into Mark Knopfler. Once you’ve played your first gig at a venue, you can then come back and play there any time. Think how many times you can treat the literal metalheads at the Totentanz to all five minutes and 48 seconds of the Sultans of Swing before that Cyberpunk movie which is now in the works comes out.

As with most script-heavy Cyberpunk mods, Guitar Gigs’ list of requirements is pretty long, if made up of common frameworks you may already have grabbed if you’re properly modding up the RPG. ArchiveXL, AudioXL, Codeware, RED4ext, Redscript, and TweakXL are all musts, with Playable Guitar Weapon – Play Your Songs an optional extra if you want to strut around with your guitar off-stage.
