Aritzia, fueled by its growing popularity in the U.S., styles that resonate across generations, and aggressive store expansion, posted whopping sales and profit gains during the second quarter — and sees the momentum continuing in the current quarter.
On Thursday, the 146-door retailer said its net revenue for the quarter ended Aug. 30 increased 44.1 percent to $1.17 billion. Comparable sales rose 34.5 percent.
Net income increased 204.2 percent to $201.7 million. Profits per diluted share increased to $1.70 from 56 cents a year earlier. Helping the bottom line was $97.4 million in tariff refunds.
Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization increased 97.7 percent to $246.2 million.
All figures reported are in Canadian dollars.
“We sustained exceptional momentum in the second quarter, delivering 44 percent net revenue growth and a 35 percent increase in comparable sales, as broad-based strength across geographies, channels and product categories continued to demonstrate the wide appeal of our brand,” said Jennifer Wong, chief executive officer, in a statement. “This outstanding performance was driven by high demand for our summer and fall collections, supported by optimal inventory positioning, while strategic investments in real estate, digital and marketing continued to expand our reach and deepen client engagement. Our digital channel was particularly robust, accelerating to 68 percent net revenue growth, while the United States remained our top market with 60 percent net revenue growth.”
Revenues in the U.S. reached $779.4 million, up from $486.1 million a year earlier and accounting for two-thirds of top line. Revenues in Canada reached about $390.4 million, up from $325.97 million in last year’s quarter.
“Our strong top-line performance, combined with disciplined execution and our profitability initiatives, drove a 590 basis point increase in our adjusted EBITDA margin to a second-quarter record of 21 percent,” Wong said. “In addition, adjusted net income per diluted share more than doubled compared to last year. These results demonstrate the tremendous earnings power of our business as we continue to scale.”
She said momentum has continued into the third quarter, driven by “positive response to fall product and growing affinity to the brand.” Aritzia plans to have an investor day on Oct. 27.
Looking ahead, Aritzia expects third-quarter revenues to range from $1.275 billion to $1.325 billion, representing growth of 23 percent to 27 percent.
For the full year, net revenue is seen reaching $4.78 billion to $4.88 billion, representing growth of 29 to 32 percent over last year.
Aritzia, a vertically integrated fashion design house guided by its “everyday luxury” philosophy, can be fashion-forward, and has a reputation for quality and being spot-on with trends. It’s not fast fashion, or cheap, and fills a niche between mass-market and high-end brands. Many of the items in the collection are considered wardrobing staples, versatile and easy to mix and match. Aritzia is further advantaged by successfully attracting mothers and daughters who shop together.

In other news at the fashion retailer, Valerie Hermann, managing director of the fashion and luxury division of the EPI Group, and former executive at Yves Saint Laurent, Reed Krakoff and Ralph Lauren, has joined Aritzia’s board of directors.
The retailer is steadily growing its presence and popularity across North America, and sees the potential to operate upward of 200 stores in the U.S. alone. And in many cases, the buildout is bolder, in larger boxes with cafés, spacious fitting areas with multiple fitting rooms, elevated service and greater amenities. Aritzia stores average about 10,000 square feet, with flagship locations at least 20,000 square feet.
In Vancouver, where Aritzia is based, a flagship is tentatively set to open in 2027 at the site of a former Nordstrom store at the corner of Robson and Howe streets. With four levels and 40,000 square feet of space, including selling and back-of-the-house areas, the flagship will be among Aritzia’s most expansive and immersive retail destinations to date.
