The Denver Broncos received some good news on both star cornerback Pat Surtain II and wide receiver Pat Bryant as MRIs taken showed both avoided worst-case scenarios, sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Surtain suffered a noncontact ankle injury Sunday in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers, going to the ground and grabbing his right foot and ankle until the Broncos’ medical staff arrived. He was helped to the locker room by Broncos personnel and didn’t return for the second half.
The 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, Surtain is the key to the Broncos’ defensive game plan each week, but sources say it’s expected to be a short-term injury.
Sources classified Surtain as “week-to-week” to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, with one bracing for him to miss about two weeks in total.
Bryant is expected to miss “a few weeks,” a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Bryant sprained his ankle in Sunday’s loss and left the field on a cart.
Bryant is second on the Broncos this season with 133 receiving yards, while his nine receptions are tied with Courtland Sutton for third on the team. He has one touchdown catch.
The Broncos next face the winless Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
Information from ESPN’s Jeff Legwold was used in this report.
