Andy Robertson says reaching 100 Scotland caps “means everything to me” after he hit the milestone in the Nations League win in North Macedonia.
Goals by Kieron Bowie and John McGinn ensured the Scots recorded their first win under new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli and gave the captain a victory to make his flagship appearance.
“It means everything to me, it means everything to my family,” Tottenham Hotspur’s Robertson told BBC Sport Scotland. “I’ve been away now 100 times… I’ve got to feel sorry for my wife!
“It’s been an unbelievable journey, I remember my first game and it’s been a process since then. It’s emotional for me. I love this country, there’s only one person before me in the men’s game to do that, it’s a pretty special achievement.”
That person is Kenny Dalglish. Robertson is now just two caps behind his fellow Liverpool legend and could eclipse him during November’s Scotland double-header.
“I thought Kenny was gonna be worried about his goalscoring record in the first five minutes because I had about six shots,” Robertson said of the early stages of Saturday’s game in Skopje.
“The squad did a nice presentation for me, but I told them I wanted the win. The lads did so well and it’ll be a special one for me and my family.”
Robertson has been a constant presence since Gordon Strachan gave him his Scotland debut in 2014 when he was a fresh-faced left-back with Dundee United.
He has defined a generation of the Scotland national team but what do the numbers tell us about his international career?
