Not all romances in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are created equally. While some romanceable characters are mere flings, others may become the love of Geralt’s life. Whether you wish to stay faithful to Triss or Yennefer, try to seduce half the female population, or are looking for that one unicorn scene, this Witcher 3 romance guide can help you out.
Here’s how to reach a romance ending in The Witcher 3, plus a complete list of romanceable characters.
How to find romance in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Before you start testing your Witcher charms, beware that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt makes an important distinction between “main” romance options and one-night stands. You’re free to have as many flings as you like without consequences, but tread carefully while pursuing Geralt’s two primary love interests: Yennefer and Triss.
You must complete either Yen’s or Triss’ quest line with a declaration of love to reach a romance ending. A romance ending will get you an extra cutscene at the end of the main game, showing Geralt’s life with his chosen love. If Geralt pursues both main love interests instead of choosing between them, there will be consequences (more on that below).
How to romance Triss in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
If you’d like to romance Triss, you must do so before starting “The Isle of Mists,” a Skellige-based main quest.
To start romancing Triss, follow the main quests until you’ve completed “Count Reuven’s Treasure,” then do the following Novigrad-based side quest: “A Matter of Life and Death.” At the end of the masquerade, after you’ve found Albert Vegelbud, you’ll meet up with Triss. When she runs into the labyrinth, follow her and kiss her. This is a timed choice, so don’t miss the opportunity!
Next, take on the “Now or Never” side quest and agree to help Triss. At the end of this quest, Geralt and Triss have a last meeting at the port before Triss leaves for Kovir. To complete Geralt’s romance with Triss, pick the following dialogue lines: “Stay with me” and “I love you.” The spicy romance scene will follow after.
How to romance Yennefer in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
If you wish to romance Yennefer, you must do so before completing the “Ugly Baby” main quest.
First, follow the main story on the Skellige Isles, starting with “The King is Dead – Long Live the King” and ending with “The Calm Before the Storm.” You’ll unlock a side quest called “The Last Wish,” which starts in Larvik. After you’ve helped Yennefer find the djinn and lift the spell, while you’re sitting on the edge of the ship, when Yen declares that nothing has changed for her, say “I still love you, too.”
While it’s not required for Yennefer’s romance ending in “The Last Wish,” you can get an additional romance scene with Yen during “The King is Dead – Long Live the King.” Near the end of the quest, following the fight with the Earth Elemental, the cave fills with poisonous gas; when Yen asks you to think of something, instead of actually being helpful, say “Damn, I wanna kiss you, Yen.” After Yen teleports you both into her room, say “Wouldn’t mind watching…” Sit back and enjoy the famous “unicorn” cutscene.
When you meet Yennefer at Kaer Morhen during the “No Place Like Home” main quest later on, provided you’ve declared your love during “The Last Wish,” you can agree to retreat to her bedroom together — you know what follows.
What happens if you romance both Yennefer and Triss in The Witcher 3
If you try to get a happy ending with both Yennefer and Triss, you’ll be in for an unpleasant surprise; instead of the promised ménage à trois, they’ll tie Geralt to a bed at the Kingfisher Inn, where he’s eventually rescued by Dandelion. This locks you out of both romance endings.
The point of no return for romancing either Triss or Yen is when you declare your love at the end of their respective quest lines. This means you’re free to kiss Triss during “A Matter of Life and Death” and still get Yen’s romance ending, as long as you don’t tell Triss you love her during “Now or Never.” Likewise, you can sleep with Yen during “The King is Dead – Long Live the King” and still get Triss’ romance ending, as long as you don’t tell Yen you love her during “The Last Wish.”
So, the “bad” romance ending, where Geralt ends up alone, only happens if you complete both “Now or Never” and “The Last Wish” with a declaration of love. If you follow both quest lines but turn one of the women down, you’re safe.
In case you’re wondering (no need to deny it), you can still romance everyone else without sabotaging the main romance endings.
All secondary romance options in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Besides the two main romance options, Geralt can sleep with several other women. Here’s a list of all secondary romances in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and how to achieve them:
- Keira Metz: After completing the “Hunting a Witch” and “Wandering in the Dark” main quests, do the following side quests: “Magic Lamp,” “An Invitation from Keira Metz,” “A Towerful of Mice,” and “A Favor for a Friend.” At the end of that last side quest, agree to help Keira and follow her into the woods to get the romance scene.
- Jutta an Dimun: Complete the Skellige-based side quest “Iron Maiden” by beating Jutta in a fight (without using Witcher signs or tools). Follow up on her invitation to visit her at home.
- Madame Sasha: Win the Gwent tournament as part of the “High Stakes” side quest or agree to help Sasha. Afterward, accept Madame Sasha’s dinner invitation and agree to follow her upstairs.
- Shani: This romance is part of the “Hearts of Stone” expansion. Be sure to stay at the party near the end of the “Dead Man’s Party” quest, then give Shani some rowan flowers during “A Midnight Clear.”
- Syanna: This romance is part of the “Blood and Wine” expansion. During the “Beyond Hill and Dale” quest, after defeating the giant, say, “Useful? How?” then choose to “Let her have her way with you.”
- Brothel workers: If he pays some coin, Geralt can sleep with any brothel worker as often as he likes. This won’t accomplish anything besides triggering a steamy scene, though, so it’s rather a waste of coin.
