The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, met with the Honourable Frederick Mitchell, The Bahamas’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, today on the margins of Pathways to Peace: Second International Conference on Returning Ukrainian Children, Detained Civilians, and Prisoners of War, held in Toronto on September 28 and 29, 2026.

Minister Anand thanked Minister Mitchell for The Bahamas’ participation in the conference, and they discussed the ongoing impacts of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

The ministers discussed regional security, Haiti, cybercrime cooperation and Canada-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) relations. Minister Anand thanked Minister Mitchell for The Bahamas’ continued leadership in supporting Haiti’s political transition and long-term stability, including through CARICOM’s Eminent Persons Group and the Standing Group of Partners. Minister Anand also welcomed The Bahamas’ continued efforts to mobilize support for the Gang Suppression Force, which remains critical to restoring security and stability in Haiti.

The ministers also discussed continued cooperation to address regional security challenges. Minister Anand reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting Bahamian security and governance institutions through capacity-building initiatives to combat transnational organized crime and enhance maritime security.

The ministers concluded their meeting by reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation in support of regional security, stability and prosperity.
