The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met yesterday with Gordan Grlić Radman, Croatia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, on the margins of Pathways to Peace: Second International Conference on Returning Ukrainian Children, Detained Civilians, and Prisoners of War, held in Toronto on September 28 and 29, 2026.
Minister Anand thanked Minister Grlić Radman for his country’s participation in the conference. The ministers reaffirmed their strong support for Ukraine and underlined the importance of supporting recovery efforts, noting that both Canada and Croatia are leading efforts to support Ukrainian Veterans.
The ministers reaffirmed the strong partnership between Canada and Croatia, including their close cooperation through NATO. Minister Anand welcomed Croatia’s strong contributions to Euro-Atlantic security.
The ministers also discussed expanding bilateral commercial cooperation, including in defence-industrial production and civil nuclear energy. Minister Anand welcomed growing partnerships between Canadian and Croatian companies and underscored Canada’s interest in advancing cooperation under the Canada-Croatia memorandum of understanding on civil nuclear energy.
The ministers exchanged on the strong people-to-people ties between Canada and Croatia, strengthened by the Croatian diaspora in Canada.
The ministers agreed to remain in close contact to advance shared priorities and strengthen Canada-Croatia relations.
