No news is good news, they say. They also say that some news, however little, is good news, too, and girl, do we have some news: Ubisoft’s struggling action-adventure game Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still alive despite remaining in development hell.
Ubisoft Bordeaux’s lead writer and associate narrative director Rik Godwin took to Bluesky on September 22 to provide a brief update on the game.
“Odd sort of non-announcement but for the past few months I’ve been working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 in a support/consultant role,” Godwin, who was a writer on Assassin’s Creed Shadows, said. “I am allowed to say this, I checked.”
It makes sense that Ubisoft Bordeaux would assist with Beyond Good & Evil 2. According to IGN, Ubisoft Montpellier, which is leading the project’s development, is just south of the Bordeaux studio. And although Ubisoft Bordeaux was the lead developer on both 2023’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Shadows’ 2025 expansion Claws of Awaji, that studio typically operates in a support role for Ubisoft’s myriad other teams.
This minor update comes nearly 10 years after Ubisoft re-revealed Beyond Good & Evil 2 at E3 2017, and nearly 20 years after Ubisoft announced the action-adventure sequel all the way back in May 2008. There have been some rumblings of progress, with Ubisoft posting hints that development was ongoing in November 2025 and January 2026. However, whatever progress that has been made has been slow at best and invisible at worst.
Although there’s no release date at the moment, Ubisoft has continued to swear that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be released in due time. Just don’t expect it anytime soon, and at this rate, maybe don’t expect it in this current console generation.
