Chase‘s premium Sapphire lineup includes both a personal and a business option: the Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees) and the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ (see rates and fees).
Together, they form the backbone of Chase’s top-tier travel rewards offerings.
Chase allows cardholders to hold both cards simultaneously, which raises a common question: Can you apply for both and earn both welcome bonuses?
While it is possible to hold both cards, approval and welcome bonus eligibility depend on key rules and timing. Here’s what to know before applying.
How does the Sapphire Reserve compare to the Sapphire Reserve for Business?
While the Sapphire Reserve and the Sapphire Reserve for Business share a name and a $795 annual fee, they’re designed for different cardholders and offer distinct ways to earn and maximize rewards.
Both cards include premium travel benefits like a $300 annual travel credit, access to Chase Sapphire and Priority Pass lounges, and enhanced Points Boost redemption rates through Chase Ultimate Rewards. But the key differences lie in how you earn points.

The personal Sapphire Reserve is a strong fit for foodies and frequent travelers, offering 3 points per dollar spent on dining, 4 points per dollar on flights and hotels booked directly through the airline, 5 points per dollar spent on Lyft (through Sept. 2027), and 8 points per dollar on all Chase Travel℠ purchases.
Conversely, the business version is tailored to entrepreneurs and small-business owners. It swaps earning 3 points per dollar spent on dining for 3 points per dollar spent on social media and search engine advertising (up to $1 million per dollar spent each anniversary year, starting Nov. 15). Meanwhile, all other point-earning rates remain identical.

Can you earn the welcome offer on both the Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business cards?
Yes, you can earn the welcome bonus on both the Sapphire Reserve and the Sapphire Reserve for Business (as long as you meet the individual eligibility requirements for each card).
Chase limits how often you can earn a welcome bonus on Sapphire-branded cards. For example, you generally cannot receive a new personal Sapphire Reserve bonus if you’ve earned one on a previous personal Sapphire Reserve card. The same applies to the business version.

Keep in mind, the Sapphire Reserve for Business is treated as a separate product from the personal Sapphire Reserve. As a result, the bonus eligibility rules do not prevent you from earning the welcome offer on the business version.
Just make sure you’re also in good standing under Chase’s 5/24 rule, which may affect your approval odds for either card. Generally, this rule means you will not be approved for a new Chase card if you’ve opened five or more new cards (with any bank) over the past 24 months.

Time your applications strategically
While you can apply for both cards, the timing matters. Here are a few tips to increase your chances of approval:
- Space out your applications. Applying for two premium cards on the same day may lead to one being declined or flagged for review. Give it a few days to a few weeks between applications, especially if you’ve opened other cards recently.
- Monitor your 5/24 status. If you’ve opened five or more credit cards in the past 24 months (from any issuer), you’ll likely be denied — even if you have excellent credit.
- Create a plan to meet the spending minimums and earn the welcome bonuses. Make sure your upcoming expenses meet both thresholds before applying for both.
- Know your credit profile. A strong credit score, stable income and an existing relationship with Chase may help improve your approval odds.
If you’re strategic about your timing and spending, applying for both cards can be a powerful move, especially while these welcome offers are still available.

Should I get both the Sapphire Reserve and the Sapphire Reserve for Business?
If you qualify for a small-business credit card, holding both cards can be a powerful strategy. You could use the business card for work-related travel and business expenses, while putting personal travel and dining expenses on the personal card, maximizing rewards across more spending categories.
If access to valuable Chase points and maximizing point transfer potential is a top priority, you’ll probably just want to have the personal Sapphire Reserve in your wallet.

However, if you’re looking to separate business and personal expenses, access robust business credits, and still enjoy high-value travel redemptions, the Sapphire Reserve for Business adds exceptional value in its own right. And starting in 2027, the business card will offer double the personal card’s The Edit hotel credits (four up-to-$250 credits each year compared to two).
Best of all, you can combine points from both cards in your personal Ultimate Rewards account. Doing so allows you to earn points through business purchases and then transfer them to your personal card. This can make it easier to manage your points and redeem them strategically.
