Latest updates on several injured Commanders’ starters

The Washington Commanders are currently dealing with several injuries. In Sunday’s Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left (non-throwing) elbow. It’s the same elbow that Daniels dislocated last November.

Daniels is out for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, but is expected to miss multiple weeks, potentially longer. Head coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday that Daniels met with another specialist after seeing multiple specialists already this week.

“I know there’s still probably a lot of questions about Jayden, and he’s seeing another specialist today, so I’ll hold off answering any questions about his timeline to return until we get all the info,” Quinn said about Daniels. “But, like I said on Monday, he’ll be out Sunday.”

Daniels was one of two players that Washington already ruled out for Sunday. Quinn ruled out safety Nick Cross, who suffered what Quinn called an internal injury in Sunday’s game and remained in Dallas overnight before flying home the next day.

Washington also lost left tackle Brandon Coleman, right guard Sam Cosmi and defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw in Sunday’s game. In the Commanders’ first injury report of the week, Coleman was a full participant, while Cosmi and Kinlaw did not practice.

Cosmi, who took a shot from running back Kaytron Allen late in the game, is currently in concussion protocol.

“Yeah, Friday, I would think is the time when you go through those processes; you wanna make sure, ‘Am I getting the look still to go?’ Generally, that’s the space,” Quinn said regarding when they’d know if Cosmi would be able to play on Sunday. “There’d have to be maybe some special circumstances, but not with that injury.”

Cosmi must pass every phase of the NFL’s concussion protocol before he’s cleared to play.

Kinlaw injured his shoulder last week.

“He’ll be rehabbing today, and then, as we get closer to the week, we’ll see that ramp up more. But he’ll be out for today, rehabbing, working off to the side.”

Two starters injured last week, linebacker Frankie Luvu (groin) and tight end Chig Okonkwo (hamstring), did not practice again on Wednesday.

Washington has its hands full this week, when the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks come to town for the home opener. We’ll continue to provide the latest updates on the Commanders’ injuries throughout the week.
