The latest FromSoft game multiplayer mod is here, with Dark Souls 2 seamless co-op finally out in the wild. Modder Yui, maker of similar and very popular mods for Elden Ring, Nightreign, and the original Dark Souls, has poured a year and a bit of work into their latest creation.

“Simply put, the mod allows you to play with friends throughout the entirety of the game with no restrictions,” the modder wrote in Dark Souls 2 seamless co-op’s Nexus Mods description. “With this, it’s theoretically possible to play the game from the tutorial up to the final boss completely in one co-op session.”

You can recruit up to five friends to accompany you on that journey, with game progression and NPC dialogue all being synced up so everyone feels like they’re in the same world, while barriers that would usually separate out co-op zones have been torn down. If any member of your party dies, they’re shipped back to their last bonfire while everyone else carries on as usual until the battle’s over.

Yui has tucked some extra quality of life and balancing-related options/additions into the mod, including “a streamlined connection system” that should make joining sessions relatively painless and give you the option of tweaking the difficulty scaling. On the latter front, Yui noted that regardless of what you do, playing with mates “undoubtedly makes the game much easier”. Though, they later added that this isn’t the express goal, with the mod having been “designed with fun in mind as opposed to reducing the challenge”.

As of right now, they make clear that the mod’s still currently in an alpha state, meaning you’re likely to run across bugs Yui will aim to fix as they’re reported by early adopters. To get it up and running, you’ll need Dark Souls 2’s Scholar of the First Sin edition updated to version 1.03 and a copy of the mod from Nexus Mods or Github. Once you’re in the game, the mod’ll give you a bunch of items used to facilitate organising an online session.
