Singapore Airlines currently operates a robust network of more than 130 flights to Europe every week, with 
Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) the latest to be re-added to the airline’s route map. Four destinations on the continent, however, have been axed by the 
Star Alliance carrier over the years, with the cities of Athens, Stockholm, Dusseldorf and Moscow cancelled.
Singapore Airlines enjoys high demand for travel to and from Europe from its home at Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). More than 40% of all passengers transit through the airport from its services across Asia and Oceania. The airline is one of the largest foreign carriers in Oceania, with services to most major cities.
Stockholm, Dusseldorf & Moscow No Longer Have Singapore Airlines Flights
The Star Alliance carrier once operated between Changi and Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) from 2017 to 2022. This service was operated as an add-on from 
Moscow Domodedovo Airport (DME) to Stockholm. This extra leg was operated by the airline’s Airbus A350-900 with fifth freedom privileges, which enabled travelers to fly solely between the Russian capital and Stockholm, without flying to or from Singapore. The route eventually ended in 2020 due to the pandemic and geopolitical tensions.

Dusseldorf in Germany is another European gateway that Singapore Airlines has axed. The route, operated with the A350-900, flew nonstop from Changi and initially flew three times a week from 2016 to 2018, before being increased to four times a week. Due to the pandemic, the route was axed and has not since returned.

Moscow Has Seen Many Forms Of Singapore Airlines Services
Singapore Airlines flights to Moscow have had the most checkered past, with the airline having operated services there for many decades, up until the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The airline served the Russian capital with some flights via 
Dubai International Airport (DXB) between 2006 and 2009, before adding additional nonstop services from 2008 and 2016, which continued to 
Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). The Houston route was eventually switched from Moscow to Manchester Airport (MAN) and has since been axed.
As already mentioned, flights from 2017 and 2020 flew nonstop from Singapore to Moscow, before continuing on to Stockholm. Across the last two decades, Singapore has operated several aircraft types to Moscow, including the Boeing 777-200ER, 777-300, 777-300ER and A350-900.
Switching Athens To Scoot
The final route that remains missing from the Singapore Airlines route map is that of Athens. Singapore flew the route to Athens (ATH) with its own metal up until 2015, with the airline’s 777-200ER. The airline opted to switch the service to its low-cost subsidiary, Scoot.
Scoot took over the route from its parent company on June 20, 2017, primarily as part of a strategy to serve untapped leisure markets. This helped the airline manage rising operating costs and provide a unique low-cost alternative to the popular tourist destination.
Demand for Athens remains popular for visiting friends and relatives, and this is well suited for low-cost carriers. While four routes to Europe are no longer served by Singapore Airlines, this hasn’t stopped the airline from resuming its service to Brussels Airport (BRU) in 2024, and to Madrid, which will operate as an add-on to its current services to Barcelona.
