John Richmond Spring 2027 Ready-to-Wear Runway, Fashion Show & Collection Review

It took place at noon, but given the mega-watt outfits in the audience, and the rock’n’roll front-row guests, this show should have been staged at midnight, preferably in a club, rather than St.-Martin-in-the-Fields church.

John Richmond sure can pull the pop stars, and their kids, too. His front row was studded with Duran Duran’s Roger Taylor and Nick Rhodes, and Carl Barât from The Libertines. Lennon Gallagher, son of Liam, was there, as were two of Ringo Starr’s grandchildren, Louis Starkey and Sonny Starkey.

The star of stars was Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame whose latest album, The Way It Was Back Then, is set for release on Oct. 30. He performed — albeit briefly — following the show, with Richmond singing a few notes.

Stewart, who was dressed in a silver metallic satin suit with raw edges, has been wearing John Richmond since 1989, and the designer did the costumes for his past two tours. “We’ve been friends for a long time,” said Stewart.

The designer nodded to the old days with this polished collection, which featured laser-cut leather pieces, dashes of New Romantic lace, chunky Elvis sparkles and Cyndi Lauper-style pouf skirts and prom dresses.

Looks were a mix of sweet and sharp-edged.

A prom dress in black eyelet cotton shared the runway with a bright pink gown dotted with fat crystals. Lacy harem pants and frothy pouf skirts balanced out a leather jacket and miniskirt combo. The look that closed the show, a sheer black embroidered gown, was finished off with a small mohawk-like headpiece.

Richmond is from Manchester, but he’s based in Italy and has been making clothes there for more than 40 years. His fabrics and cuts are beautiful, which must be why the pop stars keep coming back for more. These are clothes that perform and look their best in a darkened room, under the spotlight.
