Brazil’s African-inspired fritters power transformation of used palm oil into green energy


The waters of one of Brazil’s most touristy cities are often stained by a reddish-orange liquid that mingles with beachgoers, kayakers, and persistent turtles. A new recycling initiative that engages its city hall, state-run oil giant Petrobras and potentially thousands of saleswomen of a local delicacy aims to change that.
