You, reader, should play road trip RPG Keep Driving if you haven’t already. A good excuse to do so is the fact that it’s getting official mod support via the Steam Workshop on September 28th.

“Using Steam Workshop, you can finally tailor your own adventures to create the ultimate road trip,” devs YCJY Games wrote in a Steam post which also revealed their game’s console debut is nigh. “We’re initially releasing this as a beta update to take on board any feedback you might have, so you’ll need to opt into a specific Steam branch before we’re ready to fully release this. We’ll share more on how to access this and the full patch notes when the time comes.”

The post appears to be daring people to mod a rideable horse into Keep Driving, to replace the usual car or truck that ferries its youthful protagonist from place to place, getting into turn-based battles with road hazards as they go. Personally, I’d replace the car with a mate that’s giving you a piggyback, with the person getting the ride swapping at every rest stop. Not sure where all the junk you need to survive in Keep Driving would go in that case, maybe some REALLY BIG backpacks.

If you need more convincing of why you should give Keep Driving a go, here’s a bit of Brendy’s review:

It is a hypnotically involving game of picking up hitchhikers and battling tailgaters, a pixel art drivealong with tactile, chunky buttons and perfectly suited sound effects, as much fuelled by nostalgia as it is by gasoline. At first, I thought it was too loose and open-ended to elicit any deep feelings. But then I had to sell my guitar for half a tank of petrol, just to visit my dying grandmother. Dude, this is a game that goes places.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a huge guitar case to try and fit in a boot full of beer, pizza, and handy toolboxes.
