Singapore Airlines will return to the Spanish capital next month. The airline will add an extra leg to its current Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to 
Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) flights, adding a five-weekly service to 
Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD). This marks the return of the 
Star Alliance carrier to Madrid after it stopped flying to the city via Paris in 2004.
Singapore Airlines currently flies to Barcelona with some flights stopping at Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) enroute. From October 26, all flights will now operate the Singapore to Barcelona flights nonstop on board the Airbus A350-900 before continuing on to Madrid.
Five Weekly Flights From The Lion City To Madrid
Singapore’s return to Madrid is a welcome addition to the city’s international network after a 22-year absence. The route resumption, operating as an extension of its existing Barcelona gateway, will offer passengers on the long-haul flights a journey on the A350, which is fitted with the airline’s Business, Premium Economy, and Economy class cabins.

The return to Madrid increases Singapore’s European network to 15 destinations, and is its second in Spain. Announced in May, the route will resume on October 26 and will adjust its Barcelona service from twice weekly to five flights a week.

With Madrid coming back online this October, this cements the Spanish capital back in the airline’s European network, as part of the airline’s overall 137 weekly flights from Singapore to Europe. The airline’s most popular European gateway is that of 
London Heathrow Airport (LHR), with 28 weekly flights (four daily).
Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Germany’s busiest airport, is the second most popular destination, with 20 weekly flights; London Gatwick Airport (LGW) follows with 14 weekly flights (twice daily), then 
Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) with 11 weekly flights, and Munich Airport (MUC) at 10 weekly flights, according to data from Cirium, an online aviation analytics company.

Before Madrid, Brussels Airport (BRU) was Singapore’s latest European addition, having added nonstop flights to the Belgian capital in April 2024.
Connecting To Madrid From Across Singapore’s Growing International Network
Passengers on the route to Madrid will come not only from Singapore, but from across the airline’s extensive Asia and Oceania network. Singapore is the largest foreign carrier to Australia, a country with a population of over 27 million inhabitants. Singapore flies to most major cities in Australia, siphoning into the airline’s global network from Changi.
Singapore maintains services to Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney, with plans to add Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) from November. Across the ditch, Singapore operates daily flights to Auckland and Christchurch in New Zealand, helping drive the overall 40% of all passengers who connect through the award-winning Singapore airport.
