The Legend of Zelda is already a huge and well-established video game series, but there’s still plenty of room to expand and grow its audience beyond this medium.

According to Nintendo of America’s President and COO Devon Pritchard, the upcoming live-action Zelda movie, due out in April 2027, is the perfect opportunity to make this happen.

Speaking to Variety recently, she mentioned how this movie (thanks to the partnership with Sony) is actually one of the most “exciting” things for Nintendo over the next few years, as it offers new “touchpoints”. Here’s what she had to say:

Devon Pritchard: “We’re working with Sony Pictures. We are going to have a movie come out in the end of April…those partnerships and touchpoints with companies like Sony and Sony Pictures around how we can bring those experiences more broadly to not only our current players and fans but to new ones, I think that’s one of the most exciting things for us over the next few years”

Last week, Nintendo shared a small update about the Zelda movie during its 40th anniversary broadcast, revealing the film is officially titled “The Legend of Zelda”. While there’s no trailer just yet, Nintendo has released some official photos of the movie’s lead characters.

Of course, apart from the movie, Zelda fans can also look forward to Ocarina of Time’s return, which Devon is also “very excited” about, and Nintendo has announced 40th anniversary themed hardware, a concert, and all sorts of merchandise.
