Inside one woman’s psychedelic experiment to treat Lyme disease


The room looked ordinary enough: a tan couch, bland art, the anonymous comforts of a medical office building in Baltimore. Then Elizabeth Richwine’s doctor handed her an ornate bronze chalice.

Inside was a capsule filled with a crystalline powder: psilocybin, the psychedelic compound in magic mushrooms.
