Star Trek: The Next Generation

Here’s an excellent deal for classic sci-fi enthusiasts. Right now, you can buy the entire series of Star Trek: The Next Generation (all 178 episodes) in HD digital for just $49.99 at Amazon. That’s a great deal, as it usually goes for way more than that.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Complete Series

Star Trek TNG (as it’s known to super cool insiders like me) kicked off in 1987 and ran for seven seasons, ending in 1994. Back in those days, seasons were 26 episodes long, give or take – not the namby-pamby 8-episode orders many shows get today. That’s a lot of content. If you watch one episode per day, it’ll take you nearly six months to watch it all.

TNG has arguably the best captain of them all, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, played by the inimitable Patrick Stewart. The rest of the cast is stacked too, with Jonathan Frakes as Riker, Picard’s number one, along with Michael Dorn as Worf, Brent Spiner as Data, Gates McFaden as Dr. Crusher, and Marina Sirtis as Troi, to name a few.

General consensus among fans is that TNG took a couple of years to find its footing, and there’s some truth to that. But I still love the first two seasons, even if they’re not as thrilling as the later ones. It took the makers of the show some time to get a feel for the characters and eventually craft longer narrative arcs, but the whole series is worth watching (or re-watching).

I bought a digital copy of this series a few years ago for $100 and it has been worth every penny. This is one of my comfort shows, so I watch an episode whenever I need a pick-me-up. It’s great to have on hand, whether or not I’m currently subscribed to Paramount+, the streaming service where all of Star Trek resides. (If you do want to stream them instead, you can get a pretty great deal on Paramount+ at the moment.)

It’s unclear how long this deal will last, so I’d grab it sooner rather than later if you’re interested. Make it so.
