Guide to Citi / AAdvantage Executive statement credits

The Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Legend Mastercard® (see rates and fees) is American Airlines’ premium cobranded credit card with Citi, best known for its complimentary Admirals Club membership.

Following a recent refresh, the card also offers a collection of statement credits that can help offset its $695 annual fee. These include credits for American Airlines Vacations, inflight and Admirals Club purchases, Avis and Budget rentals and Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fees.

Here’s a closer look at each of the Citi / AAdvantage Executive’s statement credits and how to use them.

Overview of Citi / AAdvantage Executive credits

The Citi / AA Executive Mastercard offers five statement credits covering expenses ranging from American Airlines travel and inflight purchases to rental cars and ride-hailing services.

American Airlines Vacations credit

The Citi / AA Executive Mastercard offers up to $500 in American Airlines Vacations statement credits each calendar year. The benefit is split into two six-month periods: up to $250 from Jan. 1 through June 30, and another up to $250 from July 1 through Dec. 31.

To qualify, you’ll need to book an eligible American Airlines Vacations travel package or experience through AAVacations.com and pay with your Citi / AA Executive card. This isn’t a general American Airlines travel credit, so standalone airfare booked through AA.com won’t qualify.

If you can naturally use the full $500 annual benefit, it can offset a substantial portion of the card’s $695 annual fee. But the value you actually get from this credit also depends on how American Airlines Vacations package pricing compares with booking your trip separately.

When I priced a three-night trip for two from Dallas to Las Vegas, an American Airlines Vacations package with roundtrip American Airlines flights and a stay at the Bellagio cost $2,473. Booking the same flights directly with American cost $1,086, while booking the same room directly with the Bellagio cost $1,595, for a total of $2,681.

In this case, the vacation package was already $208 cheaper than booking the components separately. After factoring in the card’s $250 statement credit, the effective package cost dropped to $2,223 — a savings of $458 compared with booking separately.

Package pricing can vary, though, so I’d still compare the cost of booking through American Airlines Vacations with booking each component separately before using the credit.

Inflight and Admirals Club purchase credit

The Citi / AA Executive Mastercard offers up to $100 in statement credits each calendar year on eligible American Airlines inflight and Admirals Club purchases.

Eligible purchases can include food and beverages purchased onboard American Airlines flights, as well as eligible purchases at Admirals Club locations.

While Admirals Clubs offer complimentary food and select drinks, you may encounter additional charges for premium beverages, such as cocktails or higher-end wines.

For cardholders who regularly fly American, this is the card’s easiest statement credit to use. Eligible purchases charged to your card will receive statement credits until you’ve reached the $100 annual maximum, so you don’t have to keep track of a monthly or quarterly allotment.

(It’s also worth noting that some existing cardholders can temporarily stack this credit with the card’s outgoing 25% discount on eligible inflight food and beverage purchases. Cardholders who applied before Aug. 23, 2026, will retain that benefit through Sept. 30, 2026; new cardholders don’t receive the 25% discount.)

Avis and Budget prepaid rental credit

Citi / AA Executive cardholders can receive up to $120 in statement credits each calendar year on eligible prepaid Avis and Budget car rentals booked directly through Avis.com or Budget.com.

This benefit can be useful if you rent cars at least occasionally, since a single rental could potentially use up much or all of the annual credit.

However, you’ll need to actively keep track of the requirements: The rental must be prepaid and booked directly with Avis or Budget to qualify, so bookings through third-party sites, travel agencies or other channels — including AA.com/cars — won’t trigger the credit. This narrow eligibility window is where some cardholders run into trouble.

The prepaid booking requirement itself carries an additional limitation: a $50 cancellation penalty if you cancel more than 24 hours before pickup or $150 if you cancel within 24 hours. If your travel plans are uncertain, those fees could easily erode the value of a $120 credit.

I’d also compare prepaid Avis and Budget rates with other available rental options rather than booking with either company solely to use the credit. Saving $120 isn’t particularly valuable if you’re paying substantially more for the rental in the first place, especially given the risk of prepaid cancellation.

Primary cardholders can also enroll for complimentary Avis President’s Club status (through Aug. 31, 2028). The status includes perks such as upgrades (where available) and guaranteed availability up to a full-size car (with a confirmed reservation at least 24 hours in advance).

These benefits — combined with the prepaid rental credit — can offset the inconvenience of booking directly, particularly for cardholders who rent regularly.

Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit

The Citi / AA Executive Mastercard provides up to $120 in statement credits every four years toward a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee. Eligible application fees charged to the card will receive a statement credit of up to $120.

If you’re choosing between the two programs, Global Entry is the better option for international travelers because it includes TSA PreCheck.

If you already have a membership, you can use the credit to cover an eligible application fee for a friend or family member instead.

Lyft credit

The Citi / AA Executive Mastercard offers up to $180 in Lyft credits annually, but maximizing this benefit requires quite a lot of effort.

You must complete three eligible Lyft rides in a calendar month before receiving $15 in credits for that month, and you’ll need to meet that requirement every month to receive the full annual value.

That makes this credit most useful for regular, committed Lyft users who already take at least three rides each month. If your Lyft use is more sporadic, I wouldn’t place much value on this benefit, since taking extra rides solely to unlock a $15 credit is unlikely to make financial sense.

If you can use the benefit naturally, make sure your Citi / AAdvantage Executive is linked to your account and keep the three-ride threshold in mind each month.

Grubhub credit (only available to some existing cardholders)

An up to $10 monthly credit for eligible Grubhub purchases is being phased out. Cardholders who applied for their Executive card before Aug. 23, 2026, receive the credit through Aug. 31, 2027; new cardholders don’t.

Bottom line

The Citi / AAdvantage Executive offers a suite of statement credits that are best suited to American Airlines loyalists who can take advantage of the card’s travel-focused benefits.

The inflight and Global Entry credits are the easiest to use, while the AA Vacations and car rental credits require you to do some research. The Lyft credit is the hardest to get value from.

You shouldn’t value these credits at face value unless they fit your existing spending, but frequent AA flyers who can use several of them naturally may offset a meaningful portion of the card’s $695 annual fee.
