Celine Dion held her first concert of a series at the Plénitude Arena in Nanterre, west of Paris, on Sept. 12, 2026.

After battling a rare neurological disorder, the singer got to fulfil her dream of returning to the stage after years. Thousands of fans from all over the world descended on the arena west of Paris, clamoring to see the star in concert after her medical scare.

To celebrate the monumental opening night, Dion opted for two glamorous looks, one from Dior, the other from Givenchy. The Dior ensemble, via the mind of Jonathan Anderson, was custom-made and crafted from an all-black pleated and gathered fabric. Anderson is the founder of JW Anderson and was the former creative director at Loewe.

The garment was classic Dior, reminiscent of Christian Dior’s vision for a new look brought on in 1947 during the namesake designer‘s debut collection. This “new look” consisted of a few recognizable elements that we see mirrored in Dion’s ensemble, including a fitted bodice, cinched waist, and a full skirt falling below the knees.

While the musician’s ensemble was slightly modernized, key design traits from this “new look” can still be seen decades later. The “Because You Loved Me” singer’s dress was strapless and featured the aforementioned shape, but included a tapered skirt that skimmed outwards, more fitted to the body than the voluminous pleated hip piece above it. Accompanying her custom gown, Dion wore a statment-making silver necklace featuring a high-shine rectangular pendant.

Dion’s Givenchy ensemble was much more colorful, consisting of two pieces: voluminous outerwear and a dress. The look, designed by Sarah Burton, former creative director at Alexander McQueen, consisted of a pink faux-feather jacket, which swept the stage floor, layered over a sparkling silver form-fitted dress. Said outerwear was draped over Dion’s shoulders for a cape-like effect. This piece had Burton written all over it, what with the textural elements and color choice. Burton’s design MO is dramatic and playful, seen via her work at McQueen and now translated to Givenchy.

Strikingly sparkly, the Givenchy dress was made of a sculptural silver fabric featuring cut-outs throughout. The skirt of her dress flared out and was crafted of a sheer deep blue fabric dotted with crystals that were placed close together at the transitional seam where the dress met the tulle before scattering as the dress hit the floor. Each look was vastly different from the other, but both commanded attention, which fit perfectly for the occasion.
