TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Investment summit

Prime Minister Mark Carney will hold his marquee investment summit in Toronto starting Monday. The two-day Canada Investment Summit is expected to be a gathering of global investors, top Canadian executives and government with a goal to help facilitate $1 trillion in total investment in Canada over the next five years.

Inflation

Statistics Canada is set to release its latest reading for inflation on Monday morning when it publishes its consumer price index for August. The annual inflation rate rose to three per cent in July as higher gas prices helped push the key data point higher. Excluding gasoline, the annual inflation rate was 2.2 per cent in July.

Housing data

A pair of key reports on the Canadian housing market are expected this week. The Canadian Real Estate Association is expected to release its home sales figures for August on Tuesday, followed by housing starts figures from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. on Wednesday.

Dollarama results

Dollarama Inc. will report its second-quarter results and hold a conference call with investors and financial analysts on Wednesday morning. The retailer saw its first-quarter profit and sales rise compared with a year ago as it looked to grow in Canada and internationally.

AI conference

The All In AI tech conference in Montreal starts on Wednesday. The event is expected to bring together experts, researchers and business and political leaders to talk about the Canadian AI ecosystem and building an AI-powered economy. The conference comes amid rising concerns about AI safety.
