Apart from all the Diablo news, the team behind the free-to-play team shooter Overwatch (formerly known as Overwatch 2) shared a handful of new announcements at this year’s BlizzCon.

Firstly, Doctrine (Hero 54), the vampire-inspired support hero and ally of Doomfist, is arriving in Season 5 on 6th October 2026.

He’s already available to play now in the limited-time Hero Trial, which runs until 14th September 2026. This is part of Blizzard’s plans to release 10 heroes this year.

“Doctrine brings Overwatch’s ultimate vampire fantasy to Support, manipulating lifeforce with his scepter, infusions, and bat-like drones.”

Season 5 will also mark the end of ‘The Reign of Talon‘ – Overwatch’s first “year-long” story arc. And this will lead to a clue about where the story is headed in 2027, with a brand-new Hero 55 tease.

This fifth season will also introduce the new map Watchpoint: Grimsvötn and the return of Dokiwatch. And to top it off, major hero reworks are on the way for Sombra and Roadhog. Sombra is also swapping from Damage Class and becoming a Support Hero.

To celebrate BlizzCon, Overwatch is currently offering a BlizzCon Mythic Gift if you play one game after the Opening Ceremony. Additionally, the musical South Korean girl group LE SSERAFIM has a new in-game collaboration.

The Overwatch team will deliver more news about what’s to come in an Overwatch Spotlight next year in February 2027.

Overwatch arrived on the Switch 2 earlier this year in April. It follows a Switch version which was released in 2022.
