S&P/TSX composite up more than 200 points, U.S. stock markets also climb



TORONTO — Strength in technology stocks helped Canada’s main stock index gain more than 200 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. markets also climbed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 205.87 points at 35,712.15.

TORONTO — Strength in technology stocks helped Canada’s main stock index gain more than 200 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. markets also climbed.

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 205.87 points at 35,712.15.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 516.21 points at 52,580.31. The S&P 500 index was up 76.95 points at 7,668.65, while the Nasdaq composite was up 320.20 points at 26,401.93.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.06 cents US compared with 72.35 cents US on Thursday.

The October crude oil contract was down US$2.88 at US$99.60 per barrel.

The December gold contract was down US$2.30 at US$4,405.00 an ounce.
