At least 1,000 boys and girls who died in state custody are buried in graves across U.S.


At least 40 burial sites across the United States hold more than 1,000 graves of children who died in state custody and were buried by government officials, often in unmarked or unkept plots, a new study has found — suggesting the deadly toll of America’s first youth prisons is more widespread than previously known.
